January 2018
Welcoming in the New Year with lots of activity here at the farm & retreat center!
Save the date for our Spring Festival on April 28. We are celebrating Mother Earth and her bounty differently this year. The Spring Festival will focus on workshops and farm tours related to permaculture and organic farming. Our other concentration is on the retreat center with yoga and meditation classes all day. More details coming soon. Stay tuned!
On the Farm
Small Veggie Box
This year we are bringing back the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share program, where anyone can purchase baskets of produce before and during the season. To start, we will be offering 15 shares and 15 double shares of greens, onions, herbs, squash, beans, roots, fruits, recipes and seasonal surprises. Ask us for a membership form to guarantee a weekly box, starting in May. Based on interest, we expect the waiting list to be longer than the member list. Additional harvests will be available at the farm stand and at restaurants around our watershed. For anyone who can help us double the value of SNAP benefits we hope you will contact us.
The farm stand is still open every day. It’s an honor stand so you just put your money in the slot. Our hens are molting and it’s winter season so organic, free-range hens take a laying break; hence we don’t have many eggs.
We still have winter squash and lemons. Planting now so more produce coming soon. Take Huasna Rd. and follow the signs: Organic Farm Stand.

Listen With Your Heart: A Musical Mindfulness Workshop
February 28 10:00am- 2:30pm $75 / class
All levels of experience welcome. No musical instrument skills required.
In this workshop we will playfully explore the musical nature of the world we live in and our own ‘inner music.’ Together we will discover different levels of listening and explore how to ‘feel’ sound – and silence. Through hands-on exercises with simple instruments, alone and together, you will learn to practice a musical mindfulness that will deepen your capacity for listening as well as strengthen your communication and interaction skills.
Instructors Karoline Hausted and Mark Davis bring together studies in Contemplative Musicianship and Kundalini yoga with years of experience as songwriters and musicians, most recently in the acclaimed bands To Wake You and Shadowlands.
For more info and/or signing up – please write to Karoline: or call: 805-710-9808
Full Moon Ceremony
Tuesday January 30: Potluck at 6 pm. Ceremony begins at 6:45 pm.
Native Americans traditionally called this moon the Snow Moon as in some parts of the country we are in middle of a snowy winter.
The next full moon will be a Blue Moon, the second full moon of January. Like January’s first full moon, the second full moon will be a “supermoon” as the moon arrives at perigee close to reaching its fullest phase. There will also be a total lunar eclipse during the Blue Moon, which some are billing as a rare Super Blue-Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse. Such a Blue Moon total lunar eclipse has not occurred for 152 years.
If you’d like to share a song, poem, or reflection, let us know so we can put you on the agenda. It’s a good time to come together to bond with community.
